For Ben Jones, 2011 must make him feel like he is walking on air. The crowd pleasing Australian is riding with a new found excitement, fun level and skill that has him right at the top in first place after two events. And the "happy dance", it has gotten so energized that Flint Rasmussen told me he's afraid to get too close for fear of getting hurt accidently.
In NYC Ben rode bulls like Buffalo Hump, Voodoo Child, Slim to None, Segs the Juice and Mr. Slim as though these were average everyday practice bulls. In two short-go rounds he had scores of 90.25 on Mr. Slim and 91 on Voodoo Child. It had to be far and away the best things that were happening in NYC. Although he came in a close second to a well deserved winning Valdiron de Oliveira, the crowd was definitely behind Jones. And with each successful ride, his signature dance became more and more enthusiastic.
Right now Ben Jones is the hottest and most consistent rider on the Built Ford Tough Series. Not only does he have a high level of enthusiasm, Ben also has the skills to be a great rider. This could be his year.
Any rider will tell you, it's really hard to beat a rider that is having fun everytime he rides. Ben Jones is having fun. All the fans are having fun. The other riders are tweeting and facebooking that Ben is really making each event more fun for them.
Will Ben Jones win it all? Only time will tell. But this grateful Aussie is sure going to give 100% every bull he gets on. In a recent interview he couldn't thank the PBR or the fans enough for sticking with him and giving him this unique opportunity. He also thanked America for his chance to be here and participate at the highest level of bullriding. The PBR is lucky to have a man the likes of Ben Jones.
