If you have any feedback on how we can make our new website better please do contact us. We would like to hear from you.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Lynne Mauney for this mother's day article.  I chose Lynne first because I met her at PBR events in the past and because she is unique I believe in that her son is JB Mauney, her son-in-law is Shane Proctor and Bella is her granddaughter.  Bella is JB's daughter.
All of that is just great of course, but I bet most of you and I include myself in this, never knew that during the week, Lynne holds down a full time job!  She is the transportation director at a school district back in North Carolina.  Talk about having a full plate and not enough hours in the week.
We talked about JB and his start in bull riding.  "He was three when he started riding sheep.  Not long after that he started as a young boy with bulls."  You could hear the pride in her voice.  "But what most people don't know," she told me, "JB is a real deal cowboy.  He can do bare-back riding, steer wrestling, calf roping and team roping.  He's really a good athlete."  Then she added, "The thing about JB that I'm most proud of is the father he has become. No Gold Buckle could ever make me prouder."

I asked how the bull riding was singled out.  "The money if you're hoping to make a living is in bull riding and the PBR," she said.  "But JB had a passion for it also.  Mike Laws and Jerome Davis both saw that he had something special when on the back of a bull and both helped to guide him in the right direction."

So what's it like to have Shane in the family and in the same business as JB?
"Shane is great and we are lucky to have him.  He and JB watch out for each other and help each other.  But the competition is real.  They both want to win."
And let's not forget that Shane's wife, Lynne's daughter Jessie is also a competitor who travels to rodeos.  "Jessie competes in barrel racing and I travel to watch her as often as I can too."  I learned a lot from Lynne about motherhood, like how you split your time between your kids and grandkids and the love you have for them is always big enough for the job.
How has Bella changed things for all of you?
"She's just great.  She has her daddy wrapped around her finger already.  And she's even sat on a bull.  Of course as her grandma, I am happy for every moment with her."
That led me to a bit of a tougher question.  How did you feel about JB taking off his helmet?
"I was really mad at first.  I couldn't watch him ride at all."  You could sense that tone that only a mother has in her voice.  "But, in the end JB is a man now and can make his own decisions.  It took a while but I chose to support his choice and still do.  I know that someone is watching over him and things happen for a reason."
I thought how great it has to feel to know your mother can disagree with your decision yet still support you.  Shows how strong moms have to be.  "In jr. bull riding, helmets are mandatory.  In the future, more and more riders will be wearing them."
As for Lexie, JB's wife, Lynne said, "I try to be there for her.  I know it's a big adjustment being away from your family.  She has done a wonderful job as JB's wife and taking on the role of mother to Bella.  She's not only a blessing to JB and Bella, but to our whole family."
I came to my last question but really didn't want to end the interview.  Lynne is very easy to talk with and she makes you feel like you've known her forever.
If you could only use one word, how would you describe your life?
     Without hesitation she said, "Fulfilled."
To you Lynne Mauney, from JB, Lexie and Bella, from Shane and Jessie, from Tim, from all the kids at school and all the kids you know from bull riding, from all the fans and from me also,
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!  God bless you and your family.
